Headless Japanese minitruck

Honda has launched new Autonomous Work Vehicle so called AWW to work on a construction site in Mexico. To put the vehicle through its paces in a U.S. environment, the company has partnered with engineering and construction firm Black & Veatch to put a fleet of AWVs on-site at a 1,000-acre solar installation in New Mexico.

The Honda Autonomous Work Vehicle is an autonomous mobility platform suited to various purposes by selecting appropriate attachments. Honda has worked with partners to beta-test and evaluate use cases in a broad array of work environments, including a large-scale solar operations company in North Carolina, a wildland firefighting division in Colorado, and an agricultural and environmental sciences college in California. Honda has plans to collaborate with partners to further develop its autonomy functionality, and to help field-test in various usage scenarios.

I was skeptical about autonomous driving cars till I saw tesla. I think, bringing the same functionality to Mini trucks is possible. But it would still be a challenge when it navigates in construction sites. But this is the future, mostly all cars, and mini trucks will become autonomous.

Literally, the mini truck sector is going in for a revolution of sorts with companies coming out with more innovations this year.

The AWVs can each haul 880 pounds, can tow 1,600 pounds, have a turning radius less than 13 feet and a range of up to nearly 28 miles per charge.
